How Custom 3D Figurines Are Made, From Photo to Physical Object
Turning a flat photo into a physical, three-dimensional object involves more steps than most people expect. Here's what actually happens between uploading a photo and unboxing a finished figurine.
1. Your photo becomes a 3D model
The process starts with one or more photos. AI-assisted modeling analyzes the subject -- a face, a pet, a full figure -- and constructs a three-dimensional mesh that captures its proportions and distinguishing features.
This step is where a chosen style (anime, photo-realistic, chibi, and dozens of others) shapes the output. The same photo produces very different figurines depending on the style applied, since each style has its own rules for proportion, shading, and detail.
2. Expert artists refine the model
A raw AI-generated mesh usually needs a human pass before it can be printed: cleaning up geometry, fixing details AI tends to miss (hands, fine textures, small accessories), and making sure the final pose will actually print and stand correctly in physical form.
3. The model is 3D printed

4. Finishing and quality checks
Printed figurines go through post-processing -- cleanup, painting, and finishing depending on the style -- before a final quality check and packaging for shipping.
